Last week, I watched a new episode introducing the Data Center Technician training program offered by AWS to train people with little or no previous technical experience in the skills they need to work in data centers and other information technology (IT) roles. AWS Fargate Enables Faster Container Startup using Seekable OCI
While developing with containers is becoming an increasingly popular way for deploying and scaling applications, there are still areas where improvements can be made. One of the main issues with scaling containerized applications is the long startup time, especially during scale up when newer instances need to be added. This issue can have a negative impact on the customer experience, for example when a website needs to scale out to serve additional traffic. Today we are adding support for SnapLock, an ONTAP feature that gives you the power to create volumes that provide Write Once Read Many (WORM) functionality. SnapLock volumes prevent modification or deletion of files within a specified retention period, and can be used to meet regulatory requirements and to protect business-critical data from ransomware attacks and other malicious attempts at alteration or deletion. Last Week’s Launches Here are some launches that got my attention: AWS Glue – AWS Glue Crawlers now supports Apache Iceberg tables. Apache Iceberg is an open-source table format for data stored in data lakes. You can now automatically register Apache Iceberg tables into AWS Glue Data Catalog by running the Glue Crawler. You can then query Glue Catalog Iceberg tables across various analytics engines and apply AWS Lake Formation fine-grained permissions when querying from Amazon Athena.
